Review: Hoodman 3.0 Hoodloupe

Posted by Gary Ramey on June 15th, 2011

Summary: OK, so I feel a little dorky having the Hoodloupe hanging around by neck but I don’t care because it makes it possible to see my LCD in the brightest sunlight.

Review: The Hoodloupe is rubberized so you don’t have to worry about scratching your LCD screen. It comes with a carrying case and a neckstrap. The carrying case has a belt loop so that you can wear the case on your belt but I attached it to one of the straps for my camera bag. By the way, the video shows a belt clip but the case I received has a belt loop so a belt or strap must be threaded through the loop. Using the Hoodloupe, I can actually see the pixels of my LCD clearly! The only issue I experienced is that I sometimes turn off the LCD display accidentally when I put the Hoodloupe in place. The main reason I purchased it was because I take a lot of panoramic photos and it is impossible for me to look through the camera’s viewfinder while the camera is mounted on a panoramic head. I was forced to depend on the LCD display but I couldn’t read it in bright sunlight without the Hoodloupe. It is expensive but a necessity for me.
