The iPad Pro could be the perfect tool for a graphic designer or photographer.
First Impressions
It’s big. The iPad Pro may not be your first choice for carrying around town but the extra screen real estate is perfect for doing some serious work.
Even though it is light for its size, holding it one handed isn’t something I would want to do for long. Sitting with it in my lap is best.
Fingerprint recognition works from both a horizontal and vertical position.
The display is bright and sharp.
Apple didn’t make the camera a pro feature. As with iPhones and other iPads, the camera is auto only. Yes, it has some nifty new features such as slo-mo but I had hoped for manual control.
Battery life is great.
Look for upcoming posts for the Apple Pencil and Keyboard. I’ll also review various apps for photography, drawing, and painting.
I’ve launched a new camera store called CameraAddiction. This camera store could become your #1 source for camera, photography, and video equipment. It is filled with over 9,000 products and includes categories for best sellers, most wished for, gift ideas, and our picks. You’ll find film and digital cameras, camcorders, and surveillance equipment. Where possible, each product has links to video reviews to help you make a informed decision.
If you are shopping for a mobile phone, try MobileAddiction. Like CameraAddiction, it is packed with products and video reviews.
February will have many opportunities to shoot the moon. On February 25, the moon will rise at the beginning of the blue hour and it will rise at the end of the blue hour on February 26.
Sorry for not posting much during February. I’ve been spending most of my time working on PhotoTube.info and I’m starting to see results. For one thing, it now contains over 800 instructional photography videos. Be sure to check it out. Here is a list of current categories and the number of videos in each category:
If there is anything that I learned from the video it is that it takes more than just jumping in the air to take photos that look like someone is floating, i.e. the video is more entertaining than instructional. Nevertheless, two good tips from the video are to use a tripod and fast shutter speed. Click the following link to the website that he mentions in the video:
Want more? Check out Trick Photography and Special Effects. It contains excellent tips for shooting levitation photographs as well as a whole lot more.
January will have many opportunities to shoot the moon. On January 26, the moon will be low in the sky during the blue hour and it will rise during the blue hour on January 27.

My Take: I found this article by Mark Laurie from 2011. Most of it still applies for 2012 so I decided to share it with you. I deleted a few suggestions and added some links to help you shop for the items.
A Master Photographer shares his popular annual list of gift ideas to help give you some ideas for the photographer on your holiday shopping list. These aren’t just the normal things, though, but cool stuff that they will ask, “Wow, where did you find this?” Finding a gift for a photographer can be tricky – where does the non-photographer look? Well, here you go, from the fun to the serious, along with the obscure. This will make it easy for you.
1. Canon/Nikon Mugs store. Not really a camera accessory but I think these are just fun. Just be careful you don’t grab the real lens and pour coffee into it.
2. Wacom tablet. They come in different sizes with the Bamboo line for the starters, and the Intous line for the real creative types. Once they start using this to work on their images, the mouse will feel like a puck! Starts at $125. Most camera stores carry this.
3. Exotic lens. Bigger budget? Buy an exotic lens, super wide angle Fisheye, long telephoto or a macro lens. If you aren’t knowledgable about what you are buying, always buy the same brand lens as the camera.
4. The Eye-Fi. It’s not just a memory card, but a wireless transmitter so you can upload your images to the computer or your favorite photo sharing site. You can also get cards to work with smart phones and the iPad. $99 Click to read more »
